Tokyo by night

Tokyo by night

Some random nightshots.

(Or: Back to where it all began.. maybe.)

Tokyo street life

Another try to capture some ordinary people in this busy and multifaceted city.

Taking these pictures it’s for once an advantage to pass off as a tourist.

Hatsumôde

Hatsumôde:  The first Shinto shrine visit of the Japanese New Year

Hatsumôde

Best opportunity to get the real feeling of what it means to line up!

Irumi

During Christmas time (preparations starting in October!) Tokyo gets decorated with thousands of little lights.

Irumi

It truly is amazing, however for my taste it’s way too much and too cold which makes it about as Christmassy as the neon lamps and pet bottle stars at Zürich Bahnhofstrasse.

Autumn Landscape

To enjoy in awe-stricken silence..

(In case there is a freak, who would like to label those mountain peaks – feel free.)

Hometown

What a great idea to build this fountain in the middle of the city just in front of the federal palace in Berne.

Federal Palace, Berne

A lot of fun for young and old, drunk and sober…

Colors of Japan – Temples and Shrines

Again some old and older pictures from temples and shrines located in Kochi, Kyoto, Tokyo and Kamakura.

Colors of Japan - Temples and Shrines

A Japanese legend says, that for a thousand origami cranes a wish or, depending on the source, even eternal good luck will be granted. (I probably should give it a try.)

Meiji Shrine

The Meiji-Shrine is, with its 7000,000m2 area and over 170,000 trees, one of Japan’s most popular shrines and counts 30 million visitors a year.

Meiji Shrine

In my opinion definitely one of the “10 things to do” during a stay in Tokyo!

Hanami

In Switzerland it would probably be called national Botelon (an organized gathering that involves drinking too much alcohol), however, in Japan everyone seems to truly enjoy the cherry blossom season. (Me too by the way.)

sakurabewunderer

Usually in Tokyo at the beginning of April, this year the full bloom was already at the end of March – and I totally missed it and furthermore unfortunately deleted the few pics I shot. Therefore I only got to share some old ones  from Tokyo and Kyoto.

Tokyo Marathon (Japanese Carnival)

„Where are you? I can’t see you.. What? next to the pig head? Which one?” I wasn’t expecting to hear that kind of conversation this morning at the Tokyo Marathon: A 40km run across the whole town, starting at the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building and finishing in Odaiba.

Tokyo Marathon

And everyone was there; including some special guests from the Ueno Zoo, several circus members and most of my favorite dishes!
